If your roof is starting to age and has fallen into disrepair it’s possible that you could start to see leaks happening throughout your roofing structure. If you are a homeowner and you decide to  just let a leak persist, we would like to inform you about some of the greatest dangers of a leaking roof:

The formation of black mold:

A leaking roof can often create the perfect environment for creating mold. Mold can spread quickly throughout the structure of a home through the roofing structure first. When moisture is allowed into the HVAC system and delivered throughout the vents in your home it can often make its way into your furniture, your carpeting and throughout the structure of your home too. This can cause a number of negative health effects for anyone in the home.

Fire hazards:

An ongoing leak can also pose a risk for your electrical wiring and a fire hazard. If you have a leak in your roof it’s highly recommended that you turn off the electricity to any areas that could contact the roofing systems. Water that pulls up in your attic or in your ceiling could pose a risk to the structural integrity of your home and a fire risk with your electrical grid.

Ongoing structural damage:

Even a small roof leak could cause ongoing structural damage which could be infinitely more expensive to fix that a small leak. When a roof starts to rot and fall inwards, this could cause a series of expensive wood framing repairs and seepage throughout the subfloor and frame of your home too.

As you can see there are many dangers associated with a leaking roof. If you would like to prevent roof leaking in the future, you should highly consider fixing up any small leak as soon as you notice it with the help of a professional roofing contractor.
